Insurance fraud training for carriers, adjusters, agents and investigators

Massachusetts compliance

Massachusetts insurance fraud training

In Massachusetts the mandated fraud training comes from the Massachusetts Automobile Insurance Plan (MAIP): assigned risk producers and their employees must complete claims reporting and fraud recognition training within six months.

The requirement

What Massachusetts requires

Under the Commonwealth Automobile Reinsurers (CAR) Rules of Operation, Rule 31.B.14, each assigned risk producer and the producer's employees must complete claims reporting and fraud recognition training. CAR's FAQ explains that this covers the producer and all agency employees, licensed or not, who process Massachusetts private passenger auto policies or claims.

New producers must complete the training within six months of certification, and new employees within six months of hire. The program must receive three CEU credits from the Massachusetts Division of Insurance. CAR's MAIP training page lists North American Training Group among the producer fraud training sources. Certificates are sent to CAR as described in its FAQ.

CAR's SIU standards also require the special investigative units of servicing carriers to be staffed with employees adequately trained to recognize and investigate insurance fraud.

  • MAIP assigned risk producers and all their auto policy and claims staff
  • Claims reporting and fraud recognition training
  • Program approved for 3 CEU credits by the Division of Insurance
  • Within 6 months of certification or hire
